বিদেশে যাচ্ছে মেহেরপুরের বাঁধাকপি ।। লাভবান হচ্ছে কৃষকেরা

মেহেরপুর প্রতিনিধি। কৃষিনির্ভর জেলা হিসেবে মেহেরপুরের সবজি উৎপাদনে সুনাম রয়েছে। দেশের চাহিদার ১৫ শতাংশ মেটায় এই জেলার সবজি। বিশ্ববাজারে এখন মেহেরপুরের বাঁধাকপি রফতানি হচ্ছে।
এক সময় সবজি চাষিরা ভরা মৌসুমে ন্যায্যমূল্য না পেয়ে হতাশ হতেন। কখনও কখনও চাষের খরচও তুলতে পারতেন না তারা। কষ্টের সবজি গবাদিপশুর খাদ্য হিসেবে বিক্রি করতে হতো। এখন মেহেরপুরের বাঁধাকপি রফতানি হচ্ছে বিদেশে।
প্রতিটি বাঁধাকপি রফতানিকারক প্রতিষ্ঠান কিনছে ১৪ থেকে ১৬ টাকায়। বিভিন্ন দেশের বাজারে প্রতিটি কপি বিক্রি হচ্ছে ৬০ থেকে ১০০ টাকায়। জেলার উৎপাদিত সবজির মধ্যে বাঁধাকপি মালয়েশিয়া, ইন্দোনেশিয়া, তাইওয়ান ও সিঙ্গাপুরে রফতানি হচ্ছে।
একটা সময়ে গাংনীর সাহারবাটিতে সবজি চাষ হতো। লাভবান হওয়াতে জেলার প্রতিটি গ্রামে সবজি চাষ হয়। ভরা মৌসুমে এসব সবজির দাম কমে যেতো। এখন সেই সবজি দেশের বাইরে চাহিদা থাকায় কৃষকরা ভালো দাম পাচ্ছে। কৃষকরা রফতানিকারক প্রতিষ্ঠানের কাছে বাঁধাকপি সরবরাহ করছেন বেশি দাম।
মেহেরপুরের বিভিন্ন গ্রামে কীটনাশক মুক্ত বাঁধাকপি রফতানি পণ্যের তালিকায় যুক্ত হওয়ায় বৈদেশিক মুদ্রা আয়ের নতুন সম্ভাবনাময় খাতও তৈরি হয়েছে। অল্প খরচে অধিক লাভ হওয়ায় বিদেশে রপ্তানি যোগ্য বাঁধাকপি চাষে আগ্রহ বাড়ছে কৃষকদের।
কৃষি বিভাগ চাষিদের সার্বিক সহযোগিতা করায় বাঁধাকপির উৎপাদন বৃদ্ধি, গুণগতমান বজায় রাখার পাশাপাশি খরচও কমছে। কৃষি বিভাগের হিসেবে দেশের গণ্ডি পেরিয়ে চলতি বছরে মেহেরপুর থেকে বিষমুক্ত ১৫শ’ টন বাঁধাকপি সিঙ্গাপুর, মালয়েশিয়া ও তাইওয়ানে রফতানি হচ্ছে।
রফতানিকারক প্রতিষ্ঠান এগ্রো ফ্রেশ কোম্পানির মাধ্যমে এসব বাঁধাকপি রফতানি হচ্ছে। মাঠ থেকেই বাঁধাকপি কিনে নিচ্ছেন রফতানিকারক প্রতিষ্ঠান। আগামী বছরে আরও বেশি কৃষককে এ সুবিধার আওতায় আনতে কৃষি বিভাগের সহযোগিতা প্রত্যাশা করছে কৃষকরা।
মেহেরপুরের সাহারবাটি, রাজনগর, যুগিন্দা, বন্দর, মোনাখালী, সোনাপুর, কাথুলিসহ বিভিন্ন গ্রামে এই কপির আবাদ হচ্ছে। আর্থিক লাভের কথা চিন্তা করে সবজি উৎপাদনে আগ্রহী হচ্ছেন এ অঞ্চলের কৃষকরা।
প্রতিদিন মেহেরপুর থেকে ট্রাক- লরি ভরে নেওয়া হচ্ছে চট্টগ্রামের উদ্দেশে। যা চিটাগাং থেকে সমুদ্র পথে সিঙ্গাপুর, মালয়েশিয়া, ভিয়েতনাম ও ইন্দোনেশিয়ায় রফতানি হচ্ছে। দেশের বাজারে এক ট্রাক বাঁধাকপি চাষি পেত ৪০-৪৫ হাজার টাকা। কিন্তু বর্তমানে দেশের বাইরে বিক্রি করে চাষি পাচ্ছে ৭০ থেকে ৮০ হাজার টাকা।
জেলা কৃষি অফিস সূত্রে জানা গেছে, জেলাতে ১ হাজার হেক্টর জমিতে বাঁধাকপি চাষ করেছেন কৃষকরা। সাধারণত শীতের মধ্যেই বাঁধাকপি চাষ ও হারভেস্টিং শেষ হয়ে যায়। চলতি মৌসুমে চারটি দেশ রফতানিকারক প্রতিষ্ঠানকে ১ হাজার ৫০০ টন বাঁধাকপির নেওয়ার চাহিদা দিয়েছে। সে মোতাবেক সিঙ্গাপুর, মালয়েশিয়া ভিয়েতনাম ও ইন্দোনেশিয়ায় সরবরাহ করা হবে। কৃষকদের কাছ থেকে কপিগুলো সংগ্রহ করছেন রফতানিকারকরা।
রফতানিকারক প্রতিষ্ঠান এগ্রো ফ্রেশ কোম্পানির মাধ্যমে এসব বাঁধাকপি রফতানি হচ্ছে। মাঠ থেকেই বাঁধাকপি কিনে নিচ্ছেন রফতানিকারক প্রতিষ্ঠান। আগামী বছরে আরও বেশি কৃষককে এ সুবিধার আওতায় আনতে কৃষি বিভাগের সহযোগিতা প্রত্যাশা করছে কৃষকরা।
রফতানিকারক প্রতিষ্ঠানের কোয়ালিটি কন্ট্রোল শাখা থেকে জানা গেছে, চারা রোপণের পর থেকে কপি সংগ্রহ করা পর্যন্ত নিবিড় পরিচর্যার মাধ্যমে রফতানি উপযোগী করে তোলা হয়।

সদর উপজেলার আমদহ গ্রামের চাষি বাবর আলী বলেন, আমার দেড় বিঘা জমিতে বাঁধাকপির চাষ করেছি। জমি থেকেই এক ব্যবসায়ী কিনে নিয়েছেন। তারা সাদা প্যাকেটে মুড়িয়ে বস্তাবন্দী করে ট্রাকে নিয়ে যান চট্টগ্রাম বন্দরে। আমি দেড় বিঘা জমির বাঁধাকপি বিক্রি দিয়েছি ৯০ হাজার টাকায়। আমার খরচ হয়েছিল ৩০ হাজার টাকা।

মোনাখালী গ্রামের ব্যবসায়ী আব্দুল খালেক বলেন, আমার নিজের লরি আছে। কৃষকের কাছে থেকে কিনে আমিন ট্রেডার্স নামের দিনাজপুরের একটি রফতানিকারক প্রতিষ্ঠানের কাছে বিক্রি করে দেই। আবার অনেক সময় রফতানিকারক প্রতিষ্ঠানের কর্মীরাও এসে সরাসরি কৃষকের কাছে থেকে কিনে লরি ভরে নিয়ে যায়। প্রতি লরি ৭০-৭৫ হাজার টাকায় বিক্রি হয়। দেশের বাইরে এগুলো যাচ্ছে তাই চাষিরা এমন দাম পাচ্ছে। তা না হলে ৪০-৪৫ হাজার টাকা দাম হতো।

সদর উপজেলা কৃষি কর্মকর্তা নাসরিন পারভিন জানান, বিঘা প্রতি ৬০ হাজার টাকায় বাঁধাকপি কৃষক বিক্রি করছে আমদানিকারকদের কাছে । তারাই জমি থেকে নিয়ে যাচ্ছে। কৃষকের আর কোনো খরচ নেই। দাম পেয়ে কৃষক খুশি। এটা না হলে জমিতে পড়ে থাকতো।আবাদ খরচই আসতো না। তিনি আরও বলেন, আমাদের কৃষি বিভাগের প্রত্যয়ন ছাড়া কোনো পন্য দেশের বাইরে যায় না। এবছরে মেহেরপুর সদর উপজেলায় ৪৫০টন বাঁধাকপি বিদেশ যাচ্ছে গাংনী, মুজিবনগর থেকে আর ও বেশি। জেলায় পো ৩৫০০ মেট্রিকটন বাঁধাকপি বিদেশ যাচ্ছে।
আলী এগ্রোট্রেড এবং মেসার্স আমিন ট্রেডাস এবং আরো ২/১ প্রতিষ্ঠান আছে তারা বাধাকপি পিচ ২০টাকা করে জমি থেকে কেটে নিয়েছে। তিনি বলেন, গত বছর থেকে শুরু হয়েছে। এরই ধারাবাহিকতায় এ বছর যাচ্ছে। মেহেরপুরের সবজি দেশের গন্ডি পেরিয় বিদেশেও সুনাম অর্জন করছে। রপ্তানিযোগ্য কৃষির নতুন সম্ভাবনা মেহেরপুরের কৃষি। পর্যায়ক্রমে হিমসাগর আম, মেহেরসাগর কলা, শসা, মেহেরচন্ডি মুখীকচু, লতিকচুসহ অন্যান্য ফসল রপ্তানির প্রচেস্টা অব্যাহত থাকবে।

মেহেরপুর কৃষি সম্প্রসারণ অধিদফতরের উপ-পরিচালক স্বপন কুমার খাঁ বলেন, আমাদের নিরাপদ সবজির বাজার তৈরি করতে পারলে প্রচুর বৈদেশিক মুদ্রা অর্জন করা সম্ভব হবে। এবছর মালয়েশিয়া, সিঙ্গাপুর, ভিয়েতনাম ও তাইওয়ানে নিরাপদ সবজি হিসেবে বাঁধাকপি বাংলাদেশ থেকে রফতানি হচ্ছে। অন্যান্য দেশেও বাড়ছে নিরাপদ এই সবজির চাহিদা। কোনোভাবেই যেন এ সুযোগ হাতছাড়া না হয় সে বিষয়ে সকলকে সজাগ দৃষ্টি রাখতে হবে।

Cabbage of Meherpur is going abroad. Farmers are benefiting

GangnirchokhbMeherpur representative. As an agricultural district, Meherpur has a reputation for vegetable production. The vegetables of this district meet 15 percent of the demand of the country. Cabbage from Meherpur is now being exported to the world market.
At one time vegetable growers were frustrated at not getting a fair price in the busy season. Sometimes they could not even afford the cost of farming. The hard vegetables had to be sold as cattle feed. Now Meherpur’s cabbage is being exported abroad.
Each cabbage exporter is buying at 14 to 16 taka. Each copy is being sold in different countries at 60 to 100 taka. Among the vegetables produced in the district, cabbage is being exported to Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan and Singapore.
At one time vegetables were cultivated in Saharbati of Gangni. Due to profit, vegetables are cultivated in every village of the district. The price of these vegetables would go down in the full season. Now the farmers are getting good prices as there is demand for those vegetables outside the country. Farmers are supplying cabbage to exporting companies at higher prices.
With the addition of pesticide-free cabbage in the list of export products in different villages of Meherpur, a new potential sector of foreign exchange earnings has also been created. Farmers are increasingly interested in cultivating cabbage for export as it is more profitable at lower cost.
The Department of Agriculture has provided overall support to the farmers to increase the production of cabbage, maintain the quality as well as reduce the cost. As part of the agriculture department, 1,500 tonnes of non-toxic cabbage is being exported from Meherpur to Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan this year.
These cabbages are being exported through the exporter Agro Fresh Company. Exporters are buying cabbage from the field. The farmers are expecting the cooperation of the agriculture department to bring more farmers under this facility next year.
This copy is being planted in different villages of Meherpur including Saharbati, Rajnagar, Juginda, Bandar, Monakhali, Sonapur, Kathuli. The farmers of this region are interested in vegetable production thinking of financial gain.
Every day trucks and lorries are being loaded from Meherpur to Chittagong. Which is being exported by sea from Chittagong to Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia. A truck of cabbage growers would get 40-45 thousand rupees in the country’s market. But at present farmers are getting 70 to 80 thousand rupees by selling outside the country.
According to the district agriculture office, farmers have cultivated cabbage in 1,000 hectares of land in the district. Cabbage cultivation and harvesting usually ends in winter. This season, four countries have asked exporters to import 1,500 tonnes of cabbage. According to him, it will be supplied to Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia. Exporters are collecting copies from farmers.

According to the quality control branch of the exporter, the export is facilitated through intensive care from planting to collection of copies.

Babar Ali, a farmer of Amdaha village in Sadar upazila, said, “I have cultivated cabbage in my 1.5 bigha land. A businessman has bought it from the land. They packed in white packets, packed them and took them to Chittagong port by truck. I sold one and a half bighas of cabbage for 90 thousand rupees. I spent 30 thousand rupees.

Abdul Khaleq, a businessman from Monakhali village, said, “I have my own lorry. I bought it from a farmer and sold it to Amin Traders, an exporter in Dinajpur. Sometimes the workers of the exporting company also come and buy directly from the farmers and take away the lorries. Each lorry is sold at 70-75 thousand rupees. These are going out of the country so the farmers are getting such prices. Otherwise it would have cost 40-45 thousand rupees.

Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Nasrin Parveen said farmers were selling cabbage to importers at Rs 60,000 per bigha. They are taking it from the land. There is no more cost to the farmer. Farmers are happy to get the price. If it was not, it would have fallen on the land. The cost of cultivation would not have come. He further said that no product goes out of the country without the certification of our agriculture department. This year 450 tons of cabbage is going abroad in Meherpur Sadar Upazila from Gangni, Mujibnagar and more. Po 3500 metric tons of cabbage is going abroad in the district.
Ali Agrotrade and Messrs. Amin Tradas and 2/1 other companies have cut the cabbage pitch from the land for 20 rupees. He said it started last year. This year is going on in continuation of this. Gondi Periya of Meherpur is gaining fame abroad as well. New potential for exportable agriculture Meherpur agriculture. Swapan Kumar Kha, deputy director of the Meherpur Department of Agricultural Extension, said, “If we can create a safe vegetable market, it will be possible to earn a lot of foreign exchange.” Cabbage is being exported from Bangladesh as a safe vegetable to Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and Taiwan this year. The demand for this safe vegetable is also increasing in other countries. Everyone should keep a watchful eye so that this opportunity is not missed in any way.
